We’re hiring a Communications Coordinator!
Role Description: Communications Coordinator for Maine Youth Justice, a youth-led campaign organizing to close Long Creek and end youth incarceration in Maine. This position will be responsible for supporting MYJ’s internal and external communications efforts. They will collaborate with the MYJ Communications Team, communications consultants, and staff leadership.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for coordinating MYJ’s communications strategy with the support of campaign staff, communications consultants, and Youth Steering Committee members
Primarily responsible for all social media for the campaign including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
Creating independent media projects with staff and Youth Steering Committee members
Maintaining and updating MYJ’s website
Supporting campaign project teams in building digital media campaigns for political education, advocacy, and base-building efforts
Creating and distributing weekly MYJ’s newsletter that includes updates from staff, project teams, Executive Committee, and allies
Creating and distributing quarterly MYJ’s newsletter to base with legislative updates, cultural organizing projects, political education, and volunteer opportunities
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position has a deep commitment to building youth leadership, racial justice, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work well independently as well as with partners, volunteers, and colleagues. This role requires clear communication and accountability to commitments.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, well organized, able to multitask, meet deadlines, and adapt to the changing priorities of the campaign. The ideal candidate would agree to the Maine Youth Justice Statement of Principles.
Compensation Salary is $44,100. Benefits include generous paid time off (30 days), 10 paid holidays, individual employer-provided health insurance, long-term disability insurance, and a defined contribution retirement plan with employer match. This is a full-time, exempt, temporary position. This position is remote and location is flexible within Maine.
